A TOP London string quartet will perform the first of four chamber concerts at Bolton School's Arts and Conference Centre on Sunday.
The centre's manager, Duncan Kyle, has wanted to start such a series for some time as he felt there was no opportunity to hear regular chamber music concerts in Bolton.
The Bridge String Quartet's Schubert Sunday Series will celebrate the bicentary of the composer's birth and will include other popular and accessible pieces from the quartet repertoire.
These will be introduced by the performers themselves and Mr Kyle hopes that the informal and entertaining presentions will attract people who have never tried a classical concert.
To add to the atmosphere, there will be afternoon tea after the performance.
The Bridge Quartet have toured England and Wales and appeared in many major music festivals. They recently returned from Switzerland, where they gave recitals and coached on an international chamber music course.
They have also given concerts in Italy and at the British Embassy, Paris, and performed on Classic FM and BBC radio.
Praised particularly for their interpre- tations of the quartets by Frank Bridge, they are due to release the first of two CDs for Meridian early next year.
After Sunday, the concerts will be held on "December 1, February 27 and May 11.
The concerts start at 3 pm and the first features Schubert"s Death and the Maiden quartet. You may buy tickets at the door, or phone Dunchan Kyle on 01204 849475.
