A TEENAGE thief stole a handbag left unguarded for a moment by an elderly woman who was tending a family grave.

He struck yesterday afternoon as the 68-year-old was at the grave in St Paul's churchyard, Manchester Road, Walkden.

Detectives say the thief pedalled up to the woman on a bicycle and snatched her bag before cycling off.

He is described as a white male, 16-years-old, six foot, of slim build, wearing a dark baseball cap and tracksuit.

It was the second incident in which a handbag was snatched yesterday.

The first happened at 10am in Little Hulton District Centre when a woman stopped to tie up her shoelaces.

A youth again pedalled up on a bicycle and snatched her handbag.

He is a white male, 5ft 8in, of slim build, with a shaven head and wearing a dark blue jacket and jeans. He was riding a black pedal cycle.

Anyone who knows either youth, or saw anyone fitting their description in the specified areas, should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
