DELEGATES representing 11,000 North-west miners today voted to ban overtime in support of their latest pay claim. They have been offered rises averaging seven per cent, and are claiming across the board increases which average 27 per cent.
BILL Shakespeare, one of Britain's top motor boat racing drivers, was killed in a 100 mph crash on Lake Windermere today.

CLAIMS that taxi fares in Bolton are very much higher than in Manchester where fares are on a par with most other towns and cities are contained in a letter received at the 'Evening News' offices today. "In Bolton," the letter continues, "a taxi fare for one or two persons with minimum baggage over a distance of three to 3 miles is 7s 6d to 8s 6d. In comparison, the same passengers and luggage from Victoria, Manchester, outwards for 4 to five miles can travel by taxi for 5s."
