MANOR ATHLETIC 0 - CHORLEY LADIES 10
ON A day when their premiership peers were not allowed to play because of waterlogged conditions at Anfield, Chorley's visit to Merseyside ended in a 10-0 drubbing of local team Manor Athletic.
The first goal came after ten minutes when Ashley Parker fed the ball through to Caroline Crewdson, and the experienced striker rifled the ball past the Manor keeper. This started a six-goal spree in the first half with Chorley exploiting the defensive shortcomings of the home team and finishing with clinical deliberation.
The second goal on 20 minutes opened the flood gates when Nicky Boyle was given the ball from a quickly taken corner and lifted the ball to the near post where Danny Toward rose to head into the top corner of the net.
Within three minutes another Chorley attack saw Parker again linking intelligently with Crewdson and the resulting right foot shot gave the diving keeper no chance. By this time Manor were reeling and were not given any chance to recover when Natalie Parry pounced on a bad clearance and played the ball through to Sarah Dufresne who rounded the keeper and finished impeccably.
The young player from America only had to wait another five minutes for her second and Chorley's fifth goal when Crewdson headed on a cross which she slammed home with a left-footed volley.
Dufresne also played a major part in the sixth goal when a sweeping move from defence found her clear on the right and her flicked cross was met by Parry who thumped the ball into the back of the net. With a six-goal lead Chorley could have taken things easy in the stormy conditions, but instead continued to shred the Manor defence throughout the second half. Just seven minutes after the interval, Toward swung in a cross to the back post and Parker ran on to push a bobbling shot past the diving keeper. Crewdson, revelling in the space created by a statuesque defence, then completed her hat-trick with a skimming left foot shot which once again had the Manor keeper picking the ball out of the back of the net.
Goal number nine came when Boyle broke through the defence and fired in a shot which the keeper did well to save, but the rebound dropped to Dufresne who made no mistake from ten yards to collect her first hat-trick for the club. Janine Jones who had worked hard throughout the game, came close to scoring ten minutes from time after dashing through the middle and unleashing a stunning shot from 20 yards. The keeper could only parry the shot and Boyle was well placed to score from close range.
Their next game is away to Bispham on Sunday where they will meet stiffer opposition as they try to consolidate their position at the top of the league.
