SIR: Having followed the three main Party Conferences on TV, I am now convinced that there is little to choose among any of them. I had hoped that at least one of them would have addressed the issue of a referendum on Europe.
I feel that the party that decides to hold a referendum on Europe will get the most support from the people.
The Labour Party, which is already split between the left and right, not to mention the new Labour Party of Arthur Scargill's, has decided not to stand on the sidelines in Europe, but to enter fully. I feel that it would be safer on the sidelines than under the foot.
What has come out of our entry into Europe up to now is nothing short of a upsurping of the British way of life. There can be no point in electing a Government in Westminster which will have to take its orders from the European Parliament in Brussels.. Changes have already been made that have affected us, and many more are in the pipeline. Our judges have already stated in so many words that the European court has the last word on legal matters.
The British people have the democratic right to decide whether they wish to become a federal state or a sovereign nation with the right to conduct their own affairs, within a union of other European nations.
The European Community is an expensive, over-populated, prone to corruption club, and our unelected Euro MPs are in a very lucrative position with far too much power.
