SIR: Why is it that night after night in the weeks leading up to November 5, we are subjected to an incessant bombardment of fireworks, most of which are being set off by gangs of youngsters clearly under the age of 16.

Two nights ago one of these irresponsible youths had the 'intelligence' to post a lit firework through our letter box. Not only did this terrify our young children, but it could have caused a fire, the consequences of which do not bear thinking about.

Surely it is about time tighter controls were placed on the sale of these potential deadly explosives. Perhaps a complete ban on the sale of fireworks to the general public should even be considered.

Let's enjoy 'Guy Fawkes Night' with a properly organised public firework display and bonfire where we know our children will be safe.
