A BOLTON town centre bar is launching a weekly series of comedy nights this week - aiming to recreate the successful Manchester comedy scene closer to home.
As exclusively reported in Cheers last month the Sub Zero bar in Mawdesley Street will play host to comedy sessions every week from this Thursday .
And top of the bill this week is Tony Burgess - a rising star on the national comedy circuit, who has toured around the country supporting Jenny Eclair.
Supporting him at Sub Zero will be Matt Seber, who gained positive reviews at the Edinburgh Festival and has written material for the BBC and Spitting Image.
Also on the bill is Darren Mulqueen, a new face on the circuit who has supported Harry Hill.
Hill, renowned as a madcap off-the-wall comic himself has described Mulqueen as "weird"!
This Thursday and every week there will be five acts on the bill, for an admission price of £3.
Sub Zero has a 2am licence and the comedy night will be rounded off with a disco each week.
The first act is due on stage at about 9pm.
Any aspiring comics who fancy trying their act out on the audience can have a go on the open mike session. Contact organiser Alex Boardman at the club any Thursday night.
Alex said: "We're ready to go and it should be a great night. We've got plenty of good acts lined up so people can enjoy top class comedy without having to travel to Manchester."
