SIR: I quote from 'Looking Back' in the BEN on Monday, October 7. Twenty five years ago Bolton Planning Committee opposed a plan to build a new supermarket on land off Mansell Way, Horwich, on the grounds it would ruin established shopping centres in this area. A supermarket did get built and the Council were right, as shops in Horwich have suffered and many have had to close.
Yet, 25 years on, Bolton Planning Committee have completely turned about on an enormous scale and approved the multi-million pound retail park to be built in that same area. The concerns for the shopping centre of Horwich are obviously not important any more.
