SIR: Thank you Cardinal Hulme, and the churches of various denominations for pointing out the huge gaps in our society between rich and poor - the right to a decent wage, and safe working conditions etc.
The Thatcherite idea that wealth would trickle down to the less well off was a fallacy. That unemployment was a price worth paying for low inflation was also exposed by the Cardinal's remarks.
One Tory MP, obviously an in-depth thinker pointed out that nothing in the Bible advocated a minimum wage. The Book does not mention the selling of arms to your potential enemies, eg. Iraq and now Argentina. It does mention: "Thou shalt not steal" and "Thou shalt not commit adultery". Both these are relevant to various MPs. I only hope that allegations of corruption in high places even Parliament is to be fully and publicly investigated. No doubt the Government on this issue would like "to pass by on the other side". But as the Bible implies: "Surely thy sins will find thee out".
