RADCLIFFE BORO 3 LEIGH RMI 1 LEIGH RMI old boy Neil Moss helped Radcliffe Boro extend their unbeaten run to seven games and dump the Railwaymen out of their third cup competition in seven days at Stainton Park last night.
RMI, who have already been knocked out in the FA Cup and Trophy, crashed out of the League Cup in this replay and Moss, getting his first start for Boro, scored in the 28th minute before setting up the second for Mike Farrelly. Ian Lunt sealed it 10 minutes from time, tapping home Peter McCrae's cross-come-shot.
Leigh had taken the lead in the 26th minute when Chris Shaw thumped home Mick Wallace's cross before Moss struck and guaranteed a second round tie at manager-less Bamber Bridge.
"Neil's a real handful for defenders because he has pace as well as power in fact he is the quickest player at the club," said a delighted Boro Manager Kevin Glendon. "But it isn't just one player, we have a strong squad and the team spirit now is the best since I've been at the club."
In contrast Leigh boss Steve Waywell was left disappointed, particularly with his defence, which has conceded 10 goals in the last three games.
"It was our worst performance of the season. There was a lack of effort and it needs stamping out now," said an angry Waywell. "It is a case of getting back to basics and working had for each other. We haven't become a bad team overnight, but we have lost the confidence that was so apparent when we were unbeaten in 15 games."
