SIR: We have nearly kicked racism and sexism out of employment recruitment, ageism still has some way to go but if Michael Kay's opinions (Viewpoint, October 22) are to be believed, dressism is still very much alive and kicking.
I could not believe that in 1996 a person could have so many prejudices, hang-ups, intolerances and discriminations against a person for the way they dress. He doesn't like people with 'piercing', hair that isn't 'neat and tidy' etc etc - his list went on and on!
When you get down to analysing what Michael Kay does like you will finish up with clones of Will Carling, a boring collection of crawling, wimpish 'yes' people - devoid of character, personality, creativeness and ideas. He might speak for the bland world that he lives in - but I have employed hundreds of people - none of them conventional in their dress - who wouldn't be seen dead in the clothes Michael Kay advocates - so I say to anyone going for a job - be yourself - dress to please yourself and ignore this person's pompous advice!
