HIT-and-run victim Allen Thompson is making "steady progress" in hospital following a horrific accident at the weekend.
Mr Thompson, of Eldon Street, Tonge Moor, suffered a badly broken leg, head injuries and a broken arm in the accident when a private hire car hit him in Snowcroft Street, Tonge Moor.
His father, Henry, said doctors have told him it will be at least 12 months before the long term effects of the injuries are known.
He told the Evening News: "He has improved a lot but he is still in a bad way. His leg was badly broken and part of the bone crumbled." The driver got out of his Nissan Bluebird shortly after the accident and walked up to Mr Thompson who was lying in the carriageway but returned to the car and drove off.
Police enquiries are continuing and they are urging anyone who was dropped off by a taxi driver in Tonge Moor or Tonge Fold at around 1.20am on Sunday to contact them on 0161 8725050.
