25 YEARS AGOFrom the Evening News, October 31, 1971 HOW often do you use your bedroom, apart from the time you spend in bed? Is it left empty all day until bedtime? Architect Edward Curtis advocates 'sleeping capsules' instead of conventional bedroooms to make room for playrooms, studies and workshops. He thinks that people would accept small compartments, intended only for sleeping, then the whole design of modern houses could be changed. 50 YEARS AGO

THE Supreme Tribunal of Vojvodina has sentenced to death nine Hungarian war criminals. All had been charged with responsibility for the massacre which took part in Novi Sad, capital of Vojvodina, in January, 1942, in which over 2,000 people were dragged from their homes to be shot. They were also accused of other 'grave' charges. The property of all the accused is to be confiscated.

WHEN prelates get on their legs to talk about ordinary social matters, the odds are that they are either commonplace or severe - not original. The other evening a meeting was convened in the Mayor's Parlour at Manchester, on the subject of a special mission to the fallen women of that city, and Dr Fraser, its bishop, spoke at great length thereon. With regard to what the right reverend prelate said about the subject under discussion we have nothing to say, but surely dissent will be wroth when it hears that 'tea fights' have met with episcopal disapprobation. The rivalry among the Manchester Sunday schools is, it appears, so great that 'tea fights' and other amusements are employed in order to decoy scholars to the various establishments. After the tea drinking was finished, said the bishop, dancing was got up and kept up for two or three hours by the young people. Was that safe? Loud cries of 'No! no!" were responded.

We thought the days had gone by when even bishops should denounce in public an amusement which has scriptural sanction.
