HOME Office minister Tom Sackville will hear the plight of furious Bolton gun owners today in face-to-face talks.

The Bolton-west MP will meet with local businessman Karl Dubkov, who claims he will lose £5,000 when the government bans pistols.

Mr Dubkov, of Woodend Farm, Newbrook Road, Bolton, has blasted the new gun laws as "legalised theft."

He is now urging the local MP to support gun enthusiasts and appeal to the government to increase the compensation for lost pistols.

Mr Dubkov, who runs his own security company in Golborne, said: "Thousands of people are going to lose a lot of money.

"The government are only going to pay £150 per gun for pistols worth thousands.

"Many guns are not going to be handed in - they'll be sold on the black market and end up on car boot sales.

"I'll be telling Tom Sackville that the new laws are a big whitewash and have just been brought in as an election winner.

"But they won't hear of increasing the compensation. I am very cynical - I don't think they will do this, it just won't win votes."

Mr Dubkov claims many of his gun club friends will also be left facing a massive loss and will be speaking on their behalf with the minister.

As reported in last week's Bolton Evening News, Mr Sackville has supported the new gun laws and welcomed the total ban on hand guns - except the small bore pistols used for target practice.

However, the Tory MP did admit that the new laws would see an end to small time gun clubs hit with huge security bills.
