TWO of Wigan's long term injuries are back in training and expect to be in action next season.
Half-backs Nigel Wright and Sean Long have been on the sidelines for most of the last 12 months and attempts to return in the inaugural Super League ended with them breaking down.
"They are making good progress," said coach Graeme West. "They are training hard and we will be delighted to have them back."
West denied that he had any talks about extending his contract which runs out at the end of the 1997.
"I am happy with the situation and I am just getting on with the job," he said.
Meanwhile scrum-half Shaun Edwards has had his knee operation and although will be back in time for the start of the new season is almost certain to miss the Christmas "double header" with St Helens.
Wigan players returning from the unhappy tour to New Zealand will be given up to a month off.
"It is best if they get away with their wives and girlfriends for a while and forget about rugby league," said West. "They have had a long spell without a break and we need them fresh for the new campaign."
Wigan have been given permission to speak to Warrington full-back Lee Penny who is transfer listed at £110,000.
