Our chimney needed sweeping and the sweep said OK
Tomorrow at 2
Good enough he was on time, then found the brush
would not go through,
He said: "These chimneys have a bend and that's the reason why",
So I paid him for coming but wished he had had a second try.
So we were back to square one with the job not done
Then decided our own brush and rods we would buy
Still the brush would not go through and the next thing we could do
Was try to find out the real reason why,
So up in the rafters we did find the bend and
Took out some bricks, but that wasn't the end,
We got the brush through, but what a mucky job to do
And we hadn't thought what we would do with the soot,
So we dug a big hole in the garden and that's where we buried the "loot".
We looked at each other for we both needed a bath
We sat down for a rest and had a good laugh
This happened years ago and now with happy memories to keep
I remember my dear husband my DIY sweep. Mrs L Walton, Broadway, Farnworth
