A NURSE who has worked with Third World refugees now needs help herself. Lisa Hellings, 34, of Farnworth, spent six months in Mogadishu running feeding programmes and eight months in Nepal working with refugees as a health co-ordinator and adviser with the Save the Children Fund.
She returned home two years ago, and since that time has had a baby boy.
But her hopes of returning to work for Save the Children were shattered by a rule change, which means she has to gain a masters degree in public health.
Lisa now works temporarily as a school nurse at Firwood School and is appealing for sponsors to help pay for the one year course.
She said: "Even though I am not a post graduate both Liverpool University will accept me for the course because of my experience.
"Unfortunately I do not qualify for a grant though.
"The cost of the course at Liverpool is £2,700 and am hoping someone will be able to help.
"I would also have to find the money for food and accommodation for me and my baby."
Although Lisa has worked in war zones now that she has a baby she hopes to take up a safer posting in a Third World country.
"I just want to do something of use to people who really need the help."
Anyone who can help Lisa should ring 571879.
