BURY'S newly elected first Asian councillor today vowed to work hard for all local residents.
Barrister Dr Farook Chaudhry made history in the town when he gained his Redvales ward seat on the council for Labour in a by-election last week.
The election, which followed the resignation of former Redvales councillor Paul Ainscough, gave Bury its first Asian representative on the council.
Dr Chaudhry, aged 54, of Rose Grove, Bury said: "I feel privileged to have been elected as a councillor for Redvales ward and promise to be an accessible, hard working councillor for all residents."
