WHEN two actors needed help in performing magic tricks the Octagon Theatre sent for a Methodist minister.
And the Rev Michael Austin, a former chaplain for the theatre, was just the right choice. The former Astley Bridge Theatre Church minister has been a member of the Magic Circle and was magic adviser for the Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre's production of Dr Heart in 1991. He worked as a magician before becoming a Minister.
Michael gave actors Ian Blower and Peter Lorenzelli some tips on magic which they will use during the Octagon's next production - Victoria Wood's Talent which opens on Thursday.
The play is set in a 1970s club where there is a talent contest. Singer Julie hopes to make the big time by winning.
Peter and Ian are one of the "turns" competiting for first place. On Friday, November 22, the Octagon will cebrate the spirit of the 1970s. Theatregoers are being invited to dress in their finest 70s' gear and the most flamboyant combination will win the wearer two tickets for the Octagon's Spring season. Anyone who wants to join in the fun should book their tickets and turn up in their finery on the night.
