WHILE many Britons will have their eyes on the sky tomorow, with the nationwide Bonfire Night firework displays, many Americans will also be looking to the heavens - and wondering if the Almighty can see them through another four years of Bill Clinton in the White House. For it seems that only some other help from above can give Republican challenger Bob Dole the job of President of the United States.
We can only wonder how the world's leading superpower can be faced with a choice between two men who hardly fit the image of famous Presidents. Clinton has taken more criticism - both personal and professional - during his four years in the Oval Office than possibly any of his predecessors, while 73-year-old Bob Dole seems to still be fighting the Second World War. Just the sort of guys America needs to take her into the 21st century!
At least the race for power over here has leading candidates on which we can take a chance without too many misgivings.
