A NEW course teaching women the traditional skill of henna painting, used in Asian weddings, is on offer at Wolfenden Community Centre.
The paint is used to decorate the hands and feet of brides-to-be in the Hindu and Muslin cultures, following elaborate patterns which have been passed down through generations and hold symbolic meanings.
Aimed at women from all cultural backgrounds, the henna painting course - supported by Bolton City Challenge, Bolton Council's Arts Unit and North West Arts Board - will show how to prepare and soak the henna which is then put in "cone" (similar to an icing bag) and used for painting.
"The patterns can last for up to six weeks," said Bolton City Challenge Director Sharifa Patel.
The course, held on Thursdays between 10am and noon from November 7, is being run due to popular demand.
A creche is available and the cost is 50p per class. Places are limited so book with Sharifa on 01204 535674.
