BOLTON City Challenge has again proved its commitment to providing community facilities by funding a new centre in Halliwell.
Chairman Cllr Bob Howarth opened the rebuilt Wolfenden Community Hall, which replaces a 1950s hut at Wolfenden Community Centre, last Tuesday.
"This building is going to be a key player in the life of people in this district," said Cllr Howarth, as he unveiled a plaque to commemorate the opening ceremony.
"It is one of the major achievements of the City Challenge."
The Community Hall Management Committee, made up of volunteers from the groups who use it, applied for City Challenge funding to the tune of £140,000 to rebuild it and are delighted with their new-look home.
It will provide a more permanent base for local groups, including a creative women's workshop, keep fit, a karate club, a mental health drop-in centre, a creche training course and a venue for local functions.
For more information on activities at the centre, which is run by the Community Education Service, contact centre organiser Stella Parmenter on 01204 535674.
