TWO local business people have been appointed as regional organisers for Understanding Industry.
Wendy Smith from Lostock was until recently the education liaison officer with NORWEB, based at the training facility at Chorley, and Mike Snape from Westhoughton was the general manager for recreation at British Aerospace, Lostock.
Understanding Industry is a charitable trust which provides industry and commerce-based educational courses for sixth form colleges and schools. It is designed to inform, involve and inspire students aged 16-19 who are taking A level and GNVQ subjects.
Wendy will be responsible for the Bolton and Bury area and Mike will be responsible for an area which includes Westhoughton, Leigh and Wigan.
They expect to increase the number of schools and courses, which are highly subsidised through donations from industry.
They want to hear from sixth form colleges and schools who are not yet involved and from local businesses keen to make industry come alive in the classroom. Wendy can be contacted on 01204 468558 and Mike's number is 01942 816190.
