DELIGHTED residents at a Bolton old people's home are celebrating after a generous BEN reader offered to donate a video recorder.
After reading in the BEN how a thief sneaked into the Firwood House home on Crompton Way and snatched the residents' video, Tottington man Wilf Millington offered to replace the machine with a spare recorder he owns.
The burglar struck as old people were being helped onto a coach for a trip to Blackpool Illuminations. The event was one of the first treats paid for by the money raised at a recent cabaret evening, but the theft soured the occasion. "I was disgusted that someone could sink so low. It really gets up my nose," said Mr Millington, of Croft Drive, Tottington.
The cabaret night was filmed so that the elderly people at Firwood could also enjoy the fun, but the video recorder was stolen before they could see it. A spokeswoman for the home said: "It's brilliant - absolutely fabulous."
