POLICE hunting the killer of Helen Bootle hope footage from security cameras in Leigh town centre will provide vital clues.
Miss Bootle, 92, of Endsleigh Gardens, Leigh, died last week from injuries after she was mugged in Bond Street, just after she had collected her £64.74 pension from the Post Office.
Despite repeated appeals for people in Leigh to look in their back yards and gardens Miss Bootle's shopping bag and purse are still missing. Det Supt Peter Ellis, who is leading the murder hunt, warned pensioners to be on their guard when they collect their pensions.
He advised them not to walk to the post office at the same time every week: "They should not go to the post office alone and if possible get a member of the family to pick it up."
At a press conference yesterday D S Ellis revealed that the prime suspects in the murder inquiry were two teenage youths seen running from the area.
They believe the pair - one aged about 15 and the other about 17 - carried out the "cowardly and violent" attack.
