HIGHWAYS chiefs are set to bring in a speed limit near a notorious accident blackspot.
They want a 40mph zone set up on the A6 near the junction of Manchester Road and Chorley Road at Blackrod.
There have been numerous accidents over the last few years and local councillors have campaigned for it to be made safer.
But it is unlikely that a roundabout will be created or traffic lights put up.
A report was due to go to a highways sub committee meeting later today which recommends the 40 mph limit.
It says that the roundabout would probably be the best way to cut accidents, but it could cost up to £100,000.
Most of the accidents have been caused by traffic turning right - either into or out of Manchester Road.
Many motorists do not judge the speed of traffic travelling on Manchester Road correctly before making a manoeuvre.
If approved, it will be advertised and come into force if there are no objections.
