A DANGERMAN wanted for interview in connection with the attempted murder of his wife and mother-in-law may be living rough in the Leigh area, detectives revealed today.

Jones of Hindburn Drive, Boothstown, went on the run a week ago after a brutal knife attack on his wife, Susan, 33, and her mother, Kathleen Malvern, 57.

Detectives have warned that Jones is "emotionally disturbed" and must not be approached by members of the public.

Police today issued a photograph of the fugitive dad and a special hotline for information has been set up.

The police team know that Jones was in Leigh town centre earlier this week.

The man leading the police hunt, Det Chief Insp Kenny Caldwell, said today: "We know that Mr Jones is emotionally disturbed at present and has made several recent attempts to commit suicide. It is important to trace him quickly in order to prevent him causing harm to anyone - including himself." His wife and mother in law are still detained in Salford's Hope Hospital where they are recovering from their injuries.

Jones is described as white, 5ft 11ins tall, slim with blue eyes and brown collar length hair. He normally wears tinted spectacles. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 793 4145.

The police chief warned that anyone harbouring the wanted man could also face arrest.

Mr Jones, a gas fitter, is distraught after marital difficulties. His Ford Mondeo car was found abandoned at Pennington Flash Country Park in Leigh last Wednesday.
