LAZY parents who stop outside school gates to pick up their children will face hefty fines. Highways chiefs have confirmed plans to get tough on motorists who park on the zig zag lines next to schools.
Parents could face fines of up to £1,000 because Bolton Council is determined to stop children being put in danger.
The signs are now ready and they will start to go up on December 12 ... as long as the proposals are rubber stamped by a full council meeting the night before.
Details of schemes at 87 schools have already been advertised. And highways chiefs are hoping to draw up another list in the New Year.
Head teachers in some Bolton schools have already taken the drastic step of writing to parents to warn them of the dangers of stopping so close to the school gates.
Cllr Peter Finch, chairman of the highways sub committee said: "This is something which is badly needed and we will be putting the signs up as soon as we can."
