TWO North West medical teams have been short-listed for a leading medical award.
Consultant urologist Mr Stephen Payne, of Manchester Royal Infirmary, competes next week for the 1996 Hospital Doctor of the Year Awards.
Mr Payne and his team have won recognition for creating a showcase unit. The second contender is consultant chest physician Dr Kevin Webb of Wythenshawe Hospital whose team has won recognition for the way they have turned a major upheaval to the advantage of their cystic fibrosis patients.
When the unit was forced to relocate the team not only ensured they got the best site to provide the sort of multi disciplinary care so important in cystic fibrosis, it also designed the unit.
As a result not one patient failed to transfer with them.
The results will be announced on Tuesday, November 12 at the glittering Hospital Doctor Awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House, London.
Health Minister Gerald Malone will present the award in front of 900 dignitaries and special guests.
