ABSENCE may make hearts grow fonder for some Valentines - but not romantic Angie Davis and her construction worker husband Dave.

Angie hated saying goodbye to Dave when he went around the country as a foreman for McAlpine. So she decided that if you can't beat 'em - join 'em.

The 30-year-old got her class 1 heavy goods and articulated dump truck licence and is currently working with her husband on the Horwich leisure park development.

Angie, who met Dave, 46, on a blind date eleven years ago, said: "I wouldn't see Dave for weeks at a time sometimes and so I decided to join him!

"It's great to be together and I really enjoy driving the dumper truck. It's nice to know my other half is close by."

The lovebirds, from Bude, in North Devon, will work together until the summer on the massive Horwich development, which is being constructed by Alfred McAlpine Civil Engineering Western.

Angie who is working for McAlpine Plant, said: "Once we've finished here we don't know where we will be going.

"There is a lot of travelling in the job to sites all over the place. But I like this aspect of the work.

"We've got no ties so we are quite happy to make our home where the work is - for now anyway."

Angie added: "It just goes to show that romance can blossom on a construction site."

Project manager with Alfred McAlpine Civil Engineering Western, Geoff Ind, said: "Angie and her 25 tonne dump truck, have already moved 10,000 cubic metres of the peat and clay."
