MOST of Bury's threatened Community Education Service may be saved, claims a senior councillor.
To meet Government spending limits Bury Council has to axe £12 million from its budget and recently a working party was set up to try and save as many activities, groups, courses and youth work projects as possible.
A full report will be presented to the Community Education Council later this month but Cllr David Ryder, chairman of the council's education committee says that virtually all vocational courses will be saved.
"There is much still to be done but I am optimistic that we will save much more of the service than people feared," said Cllr Ryder.
