LEIGH RL's Irish international forward Gary Grainey was taken to hospital last night with a suspected broken leg.
Grainey was hurt in a freak training ground accident as he battled back to fitness after a groin injury.
"There were real fears that Gary had broken his leg but x-rays have shown there is no fracture but he has badly torn ankle ligaments," says Leigh chairman Mick Higgins.
"It's a relief that there is no break but it's terrible luck on Gary whose worked so hard to get back into first team contention.
"His attitude has been brilliant and is testimony to all the work coach Keith Latham and his staff are doing behind the scenes.
"At one time we would have struggled to get 20-25 players training together at any one time. Last night, in the foulest weather imaginable, there were 62 players out training.
"That speaks volumes."
