SCHOOLBOY angler Karl Barry could be heading for the record books after landing a prize catch. Karl, aged 14, was fishing with his friends at Dunscar River at Eagley Brook, Egerton, close to Dunscar Golf Course when he landed a 1lb 4oz Brook Trout. Proud Karl took some pictures of the fish measured against a ruler to prove its size of nearly 15 inches.
Karl of Chorley Old Road, Captain's Clough, said: "I've been fishing for four years and its definitely the biggest Brook Trout I've caught."
Brook Trout are usually about 10 inches long and according to Karl's record books the heaviest landed was just over a pound.
Karl, who is also a BEN delivery boy at Hylands Newsagents, added: "I'm sending the pictures and details off to the Angling Times to see if I've got a record fish."
The trout was taken to his friend's house in Johnson Fold and then gutted and prepared for eating.
