A COUPLE of weeks ago I mentioned the Salford Hundred Swimming Medal, and a letter from Mr Albert Winstanley, of Bradshaw Brow, Bradshaw, saying how he and other pupils from Sunninghill School won those particular medals in 1929.
This has been followed by a letter from Mrs J. Bell, of Dobson Road, Heaton, telling me that her cousin, Mrs Edith Lowe (nee Banks), of Frinton Road, Daubhill, who is now 88, won the Salford Hundred Medal in 1923; she also attended Sunninghill, and also had to go to the Mayor's Parlour for the presentation.
'She had just started work, and usually wore clogs. However, she had to have an hour off, and thought it great when her mother let her wear her best coat and shoes for the visit to the Town Hall.'
Mrs Bell ends: 'She and her sister also had their photos in the Buff for their hockey talents.'
