SCOTT Taylor was just inches away from grabbing the glory with a last-gasp winner for the Football League's U-21 side in Genoa.
The Burnden striker went on to face the Italians for the last half-hour of the friendly and saw his substitute partner, Charlton's Shaun Newton, grab the equaliser which earned the English a 1-1 draw.
And he was just a whisker away himself in the first minute of injury time when he managed to get his foot to an awkwardly-bouncing Carl Serrant cross only for a defender to get a block in.
Taylor still impressed in his half-hour excursion in the well-appointed Luigi Ferraris Stadium and did enough to put his name in the frame for future U-21 consideration.
