BOLTON'S soccer heroes will mark their return to the Premiership with a special celebration tour of the town next month.
The victorious Wanderers players will be driven through the centre of Bolton in an open-top bus the day after the last match of the season.
A possible celebration reception in Victoria Square has been scrapped amid fears for safety. Anxious police chiefs were worried that the Square would not be big enough to cope with the huge number of fans who would want to join in the celebrations.
The celebration tour instead will be held on the May Day Bank Holiday, Monday, May 5 - 24 hours after the Wanderers play the last game of the season at Tranmere.
The team's journey through Bolton will start in Chorley Old Road - near the junction with Ivy Road - at 5pm. The team will show the First Division Trophy to jubilant fans as the coach is driven slowly down Chorley Old Road, Marsden Road, Deansgate, Bradshawgate and past Burnden Park on Manchester Road. The soccer celebration will end near the junction with Green Lane.
