SIR: Well done Judge Michael Lever QC for coming down hard on the youths who burgled elderly people "for a laugh".
It's a pity these people and the father who shouted abuse at the judge can't see the results of their crimes.
The psychological effects and fear suffered by victims is real and can be terrifying, especially in the elderly, some of whom never recover.
The judge said the victims had had the remaining years of their lives ruined and he invoked special powers to impose tough sentences.
Let's hope other judges take a leaf out of Judge Michael Lever's book and make this a town to be feared by lawbreakers.
