THE Octagon Theatre's production of Samuel Beckett's Happy Days has been postponed because of illness.
The play had been due to open in the Bill Naughton Theatre at the Octagon tonight and was to have run until May 10.
Beckett's contemporary masterpiece is about Winnie, who is buried up to her waist and then her neck, while talking non-stop. Anne Rye should have played Winnie and Stuart Richman her husband, Willie.
An Octagon spokeswoman said the play will now be staged, at a date to be confirmed, after the theatre has re-opened following extensive refurbishment this summer.
She added: "The Octagon does not have the resources to employ understudies and the nature of this play is such that a speedy replacement cannot be drafted in."
Customers who have already booked tickets should contact the Octagon Ticket Sales on 01204 520661 to arrange the transfer of their tickets, at no extra cost, or to obtain a refund.
