SIR: For years councillors have been whinging about not having the power to do anything about nuisance neighbours. Now they have been given this power, in the form of trial tenancies, and some of them are still whinging.
Jeff Smethurst sees a problem in having to give all new tenants a trial. Where's the problem? Cllr Noel Spencer 'isn't keen on the idea' because he thinks tenants should be given 'maximum protection of their rights' (BEN April 8).
What about the rights of existing tenants who suddenly find they are living next door to a drug addict, or a noisy pop player, or a family who couldn't care less about their house of garden? Well Cllr Spencer, I'm not too keen on that.
Stop whinging and use your power to do what all reasonable tenants want you to do. Make our estates fit for decent people to live in.
