CHORLEY RUFC 1sts 38 CULCHETH RUFC 10

CHORLEY started this difficult Lancashire North Division Two league match with an immense opening salvo as Richard Dempsey mercurially rounded his man to score within five minutes.

Chorley, sensing a try frenzy, slightly lost control of the game allowing Culcheth to record a penalty.

Chorley eventually regained the initiative following some outstanding forward play, with Neil Jones scoring under the posts. Riches duly convverted giving Chorley a 12-3 lead at the interval.

The second half began with Chorley exerting greater control, in particular their scrummaging where Carlton Bramwell was awesome.

Captain Steve Goodman increased Chorley's lead with a try after a fearsome hand off following an inside pass from the elusive Jones.

The moment of the match came when Melvyn Patterson, with telepathic vision, kicked the ball with frightening accuracy for Dempsey to touch down for his second try.

Glen Sharples recorded his first try for the club with an outrageous run from his own 22, leaving several tacklers in his wake. He eventually trundled over the line with three of the opposition on his back for the last 10 metres.

Steve Goodman and coach Martin Peacock were ecstatic afterwards with a great win.

A DEPLETED second string travelled to Stockport and produced a valiant display.

The first half proved a very close encounter with Chorley playing some sterling rugby.

The pack were awesome and gained just reward when, after strong running from Ward, Alcock supported and crashed over the line for a well deserved try.

Chorley turned round with every hope of pulling off a major shock and winning the fixture, but injury further depleted their ranks.

Hatton crashed over for a late consolation try, but Ralph's renegades found the task too much for them.

FACING a bigger, stronger pack, Chorley forwards took the game to Burnage, skill of the Chorley threequarters finally winning the day.

Burnage took an early 12-0 lead but Chorley respnded in style. Warren Liptrot was first on the scoresheet for Chorley followed by a try from Bill Eastham.

A midfield lineout resulted in John White outpacing the home defence. Further tries were added from Sutton, Liptrot and Eatham.

However it was with horrified amazement that Alan Waring stretched over the line to complete Chorley's scoring.
