A BOLTON man feared dead on a pilgrimage to fire ravaged Mecca is safe and well. Fears that the 30-year-old had been seriously injured in the massive fire which raged through a tent camp in Saudi Arabia were allayed when he rang home.
His distressed girlfriend, who also lives in Bolton, said: "He telephoned me and everything is okay. He said that he had witnessed the fire and thought that more than 400 people had been killed." Many local families from Deane, Daubhill and Halliwell are anxiously waiting to hear from relatives who travelled to Mecca for the Eid al-Adha celebration.
