PUPILS at Little Hulton Community School have the chance to show how much they care for children in the Third World on Tuesday, April 22.
Carole Livesey, from PLAN International, one of the largest and most experienced child sponsorship charities in the UK, will talk to the pupils about the child the school has been sponsoring for more than two years.
The youngster sponsored is Winnie Nakiyingi from Uganda and during Carole's visit, pupils will discover how their lives vary. Winnie lives in an area where public services are inadequate, clinics lack staff and medicine, houses have no waste disposal systems, drinking water supply or electricity, and schools are poorly equipped.
PLAN has been working within communities training them in disease prevention and promoting curative health care. In addition, the organisation has started to increase access to sources of clean water and sanitation, improve educational facilities and train more teachers with the hope that this will give youngsters brighter, happier futures.
Almost 500 schools in the UK sponsor a child in the developing world. It costs 40 pence a day and all the money raised funds a range of projects from health to education, small businesses and interest free home improvement loans.
