YESTERDAY afternoon, at the Bury Petty Sessions, Job Ashburn, cotton operative, of Bolton, was brought up on remand charged with stabbing with intent to murder Sarah Clarkson, of Bolton, inn the taproom of the Cricketers' Arms beerhouse, Elton, Bury, last Wednesday noon week. Prisoner and Clarkson had formed an illicit connection, she being the wife of a carter, and it being said that he himself was a married man. They had sojourned together for ten months, travelled up and down the country, and in the course of a visit to Bury in search of work they called at the beerhouse in question and had a glass of beer each; and there, in consequence of the woman declining to tramp any further with him, Ashburn drew out his clasp knife and stabbed her in four different places, and the woman being held in danger for some time.
