SIR: Once again the BEN should be commended for highlighting the 'Drink and Drugs Danger to Children' report by Julie Freer April 16, and the related charity concert with the Mawsteg Male Choir article on the 'Centre Stage' by Doreen Crowther, the same night.
Our social services chiefs here in Bolton are quite right to fear that they are losing the battle to protect our children against the dangers of alcohol and drugs abuse.
But it is not their battle alone! Each one of us should be constantly aware of the temptations which are actively set before our young people.
Our police officers, doctors, nurses, social workers etc are having to deal constantly with the many tragedies and social upheaval caused by the misuse of alcohol and drugs. But they cannot begin to win the battle without our active involvement.
"Bolton Life Education Unit' was set up by Bolton City Challenge supported by sponsors including the seven Rotary Clubs in the Bolton area.
Life Education is a registered charity which visits our schools to help our vulnerable young people understand the dangers they face when they are tempted to experiment with alcohol and drugs. It costs £650 per week to operate the Unit.
May I urge your readers to support the Rotary Club of Turton's 'Gala Evening' with the Welsh Maesteg Male Choir on Saturday April 26, at 7pm, Victoria Hall. All proceeds in aid of Bolton Life Education Unit. Tickets £6, concessions £5.
