THE directors of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company announce that they are prepared to receive tenders for the construction of a new branch line from Bolton to Astley Bridge, and the public may therefore look forward to the completion shortly of a scheme of railway transit which will confer no small advantage to the town and neighbourhood, and supply a want which has long been felt for a closer connection between the town and Astley Bridge, a location which has become important and populous. The length of the proposed branch is one mile two furlongs and two-and-a-half chains, and it will commence by a junction with the Bolton and Blackburn Railway at Hill-lane, Little Bolton, whence it will proceed by viaduct across Folds-road, Waterloo-street, through the Derbishire Recreation ground and on to Astley Bridge, where a passenger station will be erected.
