THE wheels have come off Seedfield Sports Club's Bolton Combination Premier Division title challenge.

Their championship charge, which was cruising along in top gear until mid-March, has suddenly run out of gas.

Just over a month ago the league table showed the Bury outfit had just one defeat and no draws from their 14 games and were just three points behind leaders Hindsford with four games in hand.

The top two then clashed twice with the Tyldesley lads coming out on top 3-3 at home and 2-0 away.

Those results rattled Seedfield and they have since slipped up with a home draw against Atherton C&N and defeats to Walkden and Walkers.

On Saturday they were stunned by a 5-1 home thumping by Kersal Lads Club in the shock result of the season.

Everyone in the Eccles side raised their game but none more so than goalkeeper Paul Daniels who produced miracles with three penalty saves in the second half.

Simon Lomax led the goalscoring charge with a brace and there were further goals from Rafferty, Quelcutti and Small.

Last night saw Seedfield recapture top form with a 7-3 home win over Ambassadors, a result that sees the top two having played the same number of games but with Hindsford two points clear.

Hindsford, who have played a game more, moved five points clear with a 4-1 win at bottom of the table Blackrod Town. Matt Toone and Chris Jolley scored two goals apiece.

Adlington Athletic moved to within two points of Division One leaders Little Lever with a game in hand following a 5-0 win at woeful Tyldesley United. Third placed Howe Bridge Mills' recent good run came to an abrupt halt in a surprise 6-3 home defeat by Turton.

Division Two champions Atherton S&S produced a 7-0 demolition of British Aerospace Reserves In the Supplementary Cup in their first game for more than a month.
