BOLTON City Challenge is celebrating a pair of awards for its innovative environmental project work.
The Tidy Britain Group gave its people and Places Private/Independent Programme of the Year runners up award to City Challenge for its success in reaching and involving members of the community in environmental programmes.
And the runner up Programme Manager of the Year went to David Shuttleworth, Tidy Britain Group's People and Places Manager in the City Challenge area.
The judges praised the versatility of the programme alongside an excellent youth programme, which together had brought about real change in the area. Other City Challenge-funded groups like Crossover 97 and Bolton Wildlife Trust have also been involved.
Professor Graham Ashworth, Director General of Tidy Britain Group said : "David Shuttleworth and the City Challenge team have been successful in motivating the local community to do something about their local environment.
"Their imaginative campaigning has helped to change people's attitudes and behaviour, and they are to be congratulated for their significant achievements."
David Shuttleworth praised the commitment of local schools in getting their pupils involved in his 'Mean Green Team' - an after-school project which encourages children to take part in activities with an environmental theme.
