SIR: I write to express my disappointment at the decision of Bolton Wanderers to invite John Major to lay the foundation stone at the 'Reebok Stadium' on the very day it was named.
Do the Wanderers really feel they are justified in portraying an image of support for the Conservative Party under the current political climate? The presentation of a shirt with 'Major No 10' printed on the back appeared as nothing more than a cheap display of political bias.
I am not condemning any director of BWFC for his own private political convictions, but I do feel that under current circumstances Wanderers officials should have been more sensitive towards the feelings of a great number of the club's supporters. After all many BWFC fans have suffered under Mr Major's government.
It appears that the Wanderers have marred a joyous and momentous event within the club's history and angered many loyal supporters by staging such a tactless stunt.

Springfield Road, Farnworth Was it a good idea to ask John Major to lay the foundation stone at the Reebok Stadium only weeks before the General Election? You will have your say in Talking Point tomorrow.
