BOLTON soccer fans are being invited to party the night away to mark the historic night at Burnden Park.
The gigantic party will be held before, and after, the Premiership-bound Wanderers' final match at the famous old stadium on Friday night.
But police chiefs are reminding supporters that all alcohol is banned inside the ground meaning that the only spirits around on the night . . . will be those of the glorious past.
In a bid to ensure the safety of supporters at the match against Charlton Athletic potentially-lethal flares, similar to those seen regularly on the continent, will also not be allowed into the ground.
And police officers and club stewards are warning fans not to invade the pitch. A special ceremony commemorating the end of professional football at Burnden Park and the winning of the First Division title will be staged after the game.
Club officials have organised a feast of entertainment to help the party spirit.
But with the match an all-ticket sell out, police chiefs intend to ensure that any uninvited guests - those without tickets - will not be allowed in.
Supt Sandra Lee, who will be in charge of the police operation at the game, said: "The fans at Burnden Park have been excellent this year and we want that to continue on Friday.
"We want people to enjoy the match in as much safety as they have throughout the season."
She added: "It's an emotional night and we hope that the supporters will celebrate in true party style."
Fans are being reminded that the gates at Burnden Park will not open until 6.30pm.
