A £1 million sewer scheme by North West Water is set to improve service to customers in the Halliwell area.
But motorists have been warned to watch out for delays and diversions. Contractors John Kennedy Civil Engineering of Worsley will be moving onto site on Tuesday May 6.
The first six weeks will see work around the Blackburn Road, Astley Street and Ulleswater Street junctions, with work moving to the Halliwell Road area once this has finished.
Road closures will affect various streets in the area for about six months but access will be maintained to properties wherever possible.
Modern renovation techniques are being used to reduce disruption to customers and commuters alike.
The contract - designed and supervised by Bolton Council's Drainage Group - is for the renewal and rehabilitation of old sewers in and around Halliwell Road and Blackburn Road.
Road closures will occur progressively during the contract, involving Darwin Street, Wynne Street, Portland Street, Hargreaves Street, Gladstone Street, Prospect Street, Astley Street, Ulleswater Street and Durham Street.
Some diversionary work is currently being carried out at the junction of Blackburn Road/Astley Street and Ulleswater Street by North West Water and Nynex Cablecomms prior to work starting on the main contract and could cause delays.
